Instructions:

Foundation:

  • Make a slip knot and ch 4.

  • Join with a sl st to form a ring.

  • Ch 3 (counts as the first dc). Work 2 dc into the ring. Ch 2.

  • 3 dc into the ring, ch 2 — repeat from * to * two more times.

  • Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3.

Round 1:

  • Ch 3, 2 dc in the same ch-2 space, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space (first corner made).

  • Ch 1, skip next 3 stitches, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next ch-2 space (next corner).

  • Repeat from * to * two more times.

  • Ch 1, skip next 3 sts, join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3.

Round 2:

  • Ch 3, 2 dc in the same ch-2 corner space, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space (corner).

  • Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, then 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next ch-2 corner.

  • Repeat from * to * two more times.

  • Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3.

Rounds 3 and Beyond:

  • Continue repeating Round 2.

  • With each round, increase the number of ch-1 spaces between the 3 dc groups as the square grows.

  • Keep working in rounds until your blanket reaches the desired size.

  • Change colors as desired to add visual interest and dimension to your piece.

Finishing:

  • Once you’ve reached the final size, fasten off and weave in all ends neatly using a yarn needle.
