Granny Stripes Blanket – Free Pattern

If you love blending classic crochet motifs with a touch of texture and movement, the Granny Stripes Blanket is a wonderful project to try. This design beautifully combines the timeless charm of granny squares with the gentle waves of a ripple stitch, creating a blanket that feels both cozy and visually striking.

What makes this pattern especially enjoyable is its construction. You’ll create strips made from full granny squares and half squares, joining them as you go. Once the strips are complete, a ripple stitch is worked along the edges to add a soft wave effect that brings the whole piece to life. With color changes throughout, you can easily customize the look—choose soft pastels for a baby blanket or bold shades for a statement piece.

This project is perfect for crocheters who are comfortable with basic stitches and are ready to explore joining techniques and decorative finishes. Take your time with each step, and you’ll end up with a blanket that’s both beautiful and meaningful.

Notes

  • Granny squares and half squares are always worked with the right side facing. Do not turn your work at the end of rounds or rows.
  • Each strip is made by joining five full granny squares and one half square using the join-as-you-go method.
  • When working the final round (Round 4), join each new square to the previous one by slip stitching into the matching corner space.
  • A ripple stitch pattern is worked along one edge of each strip before assembling the blanket, and again along the remaining edge once the strips are joined.
