• Hook Size: I/9 (5.5 mm) — adjust as needed to match gauge

Abbreviations Used:

• BLO – Back Loop Only

• Ch – Chain

• Rpt – Repeat

• Sc – Single Crochet

• Sk – Skip

• Sl St – Slip Stitch

• Yo – Yarn Over

 

Pattern Notes:

• Pattern uses U.S. crochet terms.

• Worked lengthwise in rows.

• Ch 1 at beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.

• From Row 2 onward, work in back loop only (BLO).

• After each row, slip stitch into the center of the starting loop before turning.

• Weave in loose ends as you go.

• Add a pompom for extra cuteness if desired!

• To adjust the beanie’s length, change the starting chain (add one extra ch after reaching desired length).

 

Crochet Kid’s Beanie Pattern

1. Start with a Magic Circle.

2. Chain:
   Ch 26 (Premie), 31 (0–3 months), 36 (3–6 months), 41 (6–12 months), 46 (12–24 months), 51 (Child).

3. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Sl st into the center of the magic circle. Turn.

4. Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in BLO across. Turn.

5. Row 3 onward: Repeat Row 2 until your work measures approximately:
   10 in (Premie), 11 in (0–3 mo), 12 in (3–6 mo), 13 in (6–12 mo), 14 in (12–24 mo), or 15 in (Child)
   —or until desired width is reached.

6. Finishing:

   • Turn hat inside out.

   • Sl st the two ends together using BLO of both edges.

   • Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

   • Use tail to sew the top closed.

   • Add a pompom if you like!
