Crochet Box Stitch Instructions
If you’d like to try this stitch, start by working a small sample swatch.
Foundation Chain:
Chain 42 to begin.
Row 1:
- Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, skip 4 chains.
- In the next chain, work (5 dc, ch 1, 5 dc). Skip 4 chains, then sc in the next chain.
- Repeat this sequence across the row until you reach the last chain. Sc in the last chain, then turn your work.
Row 2:
- Chain 1, sc in the first sc.
- Work fpsc around each of the next 5 dc, then ch 1 and skip the ch-1 space.
- Continue with fpsc around the next 5 dc, followed by an fpsc in the sc between two shells.
- Repeat across the row. Finish with sc in the last sc, then turn.
Row 3: (Change Colour)
- Pull a new colour through the first sc, then ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1).
- Dc in the same sc, then ch 3, skip 5 fpsc, and sc in the ch-1 space behind the shell.
- Continue repeating the pattern across. End with (dc, ch 1, dc) in the last sc, then turn.
Row 4:
- Ch 1, sc in the first dc.
- Ch 1, skip the ch-1 space, sc in the next dc.
- Ch 3, skip the ch-3 space, sc in the next sc. Repeat this across the row.
- Finish with sc in the third chain of the turning ch-4.
Row 5:
- Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1).

Row 6:

Row 7: (Change Colour)
- Join a new colour with a ch 1 and sc in the first sc.
- Ch 3, skip the ch-1 space and 5 fpsc.
- Work (dc, ch 2, dc) around the fpsc between shells behind the sc at the front.
- Repeat across the row, ending with sc in the final ch-2 space.
Row 8:
- Ch 1, sc in the first sc.
- Ch 3, skip the ch-3 space, sc in the next dc.

- Repeat across the row and turn.
Row 9:
- Ch 1, sc in the first sc.
