Ripple Stitch Crochet Blanket Pattern
The ripple stitch is one of my absolute favorite crochet techniques. I’ve made dozens of cozy blankets using this stitch, and I’m confident you’re going to love it too!
Materials
-
Crochet Hook: J/10 (6.50 mm)
-
Yarn: Approximately 800 yards of worsted-weight yarn
I used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn! in the following colors:-
White (1 skein)
-
Bloomtique (1 skein)
-
Spa (1 skein)
-
-
Notions: Tapestry needle and scissors for weaving in ends
Pattern Notes
-
Finished blanket size: ~30″ x 34″
-
Stitch multiple: 14 + 2
-
Gauge: Not important for this project
-
Crochet hook sizes are flexible—if you crochet tightly, size up; if your stitches are loose, size down. Crochet is an art, not an exact science!
-
At the end of each row, you’ll work into the turning chain.
-
dc2tog is a double crochet decrease (see below).
Special Stitch: dc2tog (Double Crochet Two Together)
-
Yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop.
-
Yarn over, pull through the first two loops on your hook.
-
Yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop.
-
Yarn over, pull through the first two loops.
-
Yarn over again and pull through all three remaining loops.

Dc in the next 4 stitches.
-
Repeat the following across the row:
2 dc in each of the next 2 stitches, dc in the next 4 stitches, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. -
Finish the row by working 2 dc in the last chain.

Row 2:

-

Repeat the same ripple pattern across: 2 dc in each of the next 2 stitches, dc in next 4 stitches, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches.
-
End the row with 2 dc in the last stitch (the top of your previous ch 2).
-
Ch 2, turn.
Note: You’ll always have 2 dc in both the first and last stitch of every row (remember, the ch 2 counts as one dc).
Continue repeating Row 2 until you’ve completed 56 rows in total.

How to Change Colors
When you’re ready to switch colors:
-
On the last stitch of the row, don’t finish the last double crochet completely.
-
When you reach the last two loops on your hook, drop the current yarn and pull the new color through those last two loops to complete the stitch.
-
Be sure to leave a long tail for both the old and new yarns so you can weave in the ends neatly later.
