Retro Daisy Square Crochet Pattern
Round 1 (Petal Colour)
- Start with a slip knot on your hook. Chain 4 and join to form a ring.
- Chain 1, skip the next stitch, then work 3 double crochets into the following stitch.
- Chain 1, skip the next stitch, then work 3 double crochets into the next stitch.
- Repeat this pattern around the ring.
- Chain 1 and join with a slip stitch to the first proper stitch. Do not fasten off—leave a long loop or secure it with a stitch marker.
Round 2 (Background Colour)
- Attach the background colour to a stitch below the first round, between petal groups.
- Chain 2 (or 3) and then chain 4 more to reach the next stitch.
- Work 1 double crochet into that stitch.
- Repeat this pattern all around, making 4 chains between each double crochet.
- Connect with a slip stitch, leaving a long loop or using a stitch marker.
Round 3 (Petal and Background Colours)
- Using the petal colour, bring the loop to the front.
- Expand each petal by turning 3 double crochets into 4.
- Chain 2 (or 3), then work an increase in the next stitch.
- Repeat this pattern around, joining with a slip stitch and leaving a long loop.
Round 4
- Continuing with the petal colour, chain 2 (or 3) and increase in the third stitch.
- Repeat this pattern around, joining with a slip stitch and leaving a long loop.
- Switch to the background colour and expand 2 double crochets into 3.
- Repeat the pattern, join with a slip stitch, and leave a long loop.
Round 5
- Increase the number of double crochets in the petals from 4 to 5.
- Repeat the pattern around, joining with a slip stitch and leaving a long loop.
Round 6
- Complete the petals with a shell stitch in the middle double crochet.
- Repeat the pattern around, joining with a slip stitch and leaving a long loop.
Round 7
- Using the background colour, increase 2 double crochets to 3.
- Work around the square, forming corners with double crochets, chain 1, double crochets.
- Join with a slip stitch and leave a long loop.
Round 8
- Chain 2 for the first half double crochet.
- Work half double crochets around, forming corners with double crochet, chain 1, double crochet.
- Join with a slip stitch and fasten off if desired.
Optional: Single Crochet Border
For a neat finish, add a single crochet border around the edge, ensuring you place one single crochet in each chain-1 corner space. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
