Granny stripe crochet blankets hold a special place in the hearts of crocheters around the world. These cozy, colorful creations are more than just blankets—they’re cherished heirlooms, often passed down through generations. Their charm lies in the perfect blend of simplicity, versatility, and the magical way they transform even the most ordinary yarn into something truly beautiful.
This particular Granny Stripe Crochet Blanket pattern is close to my heart. It was one of the first designs I shared on the Daisy Cottage Designs blog. Since then, my skills in both photography and pattern writing have come a long way—but I still adore this sweet little blanket. It remains one of my favorite projects to create, time and time again.
One of the best parts of making a granny stripe blanket is how much freedom it gives you to play with color. Whether you opt for a soft and subtle palette or bold, vibrant stripes, the possibilities are endless. You can keep it classic with a single color or go wild with a rainbow of hues—the choice is yours.
It’s also a wonderfully approachable pattern, no matter your skill level. If you’re new to crochet, it’s a great way to practice your stitches and build confidence. And if you’re a seasoned crocheter, it’s the perfect canvas for experimenting with color changes, yarn textures, or adding your own creative flair.
A Pattern for Everyone
The Granny Stripe Crochet Blanket is ideal for all skill levels. Beginners will appreciate the straightforward, repetitive stitches, while more advanced crocheters can add their own twists through unique colorwork or borders. No matter where you are on your crochet journey, this pattern offers a relaxing and rewarding experience.
Plus, if you ever need help along the way, there are tons of resources online—tutorials, videos, and friendly crochet communities ready to cheer you on, offer tips, and admire your finished work.
Granny Stripe Blanket Pattern
Stitch Notes:
dc cluster – A group of three double crochet stitches worked into the same stitch or space.
Materials:
-
Worsted weight yarn in three colors: Raspberry, White, and Mint (or your favorites)
-
Crochet hook suitable for your yarn (typically H/5.0mm or I/5.5mm)
-
Scissors and yarn needle for finishing
Instructions:
Foundation Chain:
With Raspberry yarn, chain 63.
Row 1:
Work 1 double crochet into the third chain from the hook. Skip 2 chains, work a dc cluster in the next chain. Repeat from * to * across the row 18 more times (you should have 19 clusters total). Finish the row with 2 double crochets in the last chain. Chain 2, turn.
Row 2:
Work a dc cluster in the first space between the clusters from the previous row. Continue making dc clusters in each space across (20 clusters total). End the row with 1 double crochet in the top of the turning chain. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.
Row 3:
Join White yarn with a slip stitch. Chain 2, work 1 double crochet in the same space. Create dc clusters in every space across. Finish with 2 double crochets in the top of the turning chain. Chain 2, turn. (19 clusters)
Row 4:
Make dc clusters in each space across the row. End with 1 double crochet in the top of the turning chain. Cut yarn and weave in ends. (20 clusters)
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 18 more times, alternating between Raspberry, White, and Mint.
Color Pattern Tip:
Work two rows of each color—Raspberry, then White, then Mint—and repeat the sequence until you have a total of 22 rows.

Optional Picot Border
Round 1:
Single crochet around the entire edge of the blanket, placing 3 single crochets in each corner. Cut yarn and weave in the ends.
Round 2:
Join your second border color. Single crochet around again, working 3 single crochets into each corner. Cut and secure the yarn.
Round 3:
Join White yarn. To create the picot edging:
Single crochet in the next 5 stitches, chain 3, then half-double crochet into the first chain of the 3. Repeat this pattern around the blanket. You can space the picots to land nicely in each corner, but don’t worry if they’re not perfectly even—once the blanket is complete, it will still look beautiful.
