Free Crochet Flower Brooch Pattern

Here’s a simple and charming crochet rose pattern you can make in just a few minutes. These delicate flowers can be sewn onto almost anything, and they also make beautiful brooches.

I’ve chosen soft pastel shades, but feel free to mix and match your favourite colours to create a unique crochet rose brooch.

How to Make a Crochet Rose Brooch

  • Stainless steel locking pin (for brooch)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Crochet Abbreviations Used in This Pattern:

Crochet Rose Flower

To make the flower, begin by crocheting a strip of 76 chains.

Row 1:

  • 2 sc in the second chain from the hook
  • 2 sc in the next chain
  • 2 hdc in the following chain
  • 2 dc in each of the next four chains
  • 1 dc in the next chain, followed by 2 dc in the next chain – repeat this sequence 33 times
  • In the last two chains: 1 dc, 1 sc
  • Total stitches: 115
  • Turn your work

Row 2:

  • Ch 1, then 1 sc in the first stitch
  • In the next 11 stitches: (1 dc, 2 dc) twice; (2 dc) twice; 1 dc; 2 dc; 1 dc; 2 hdc; 1 sc
  • For the next 13 stitches: 2 hdc; (1 dc, 2 dc) twice; (2 dc) twice; (2 dc, 1 dc) twice; 2 hdc; 1 sc – repeat 4 times
  • For the next 9 stitches: 2 hdc; 1 dc; (2 dc) 4 times; 1 dc; 2 hdc; 1 sc – repeat 4 times
  • In the next 7 stitches: 2 hdc; (2 dc) 4 times; 2 hdc; 1 sc
  • In the last 8 stitches: 1 hdc; 2 hdc; (2 dc) 3 times; 2 hdc; 1 hdc; 1 sc
  • Total petals: 11
  • Turn your work

(If you want to make your rose in two colours, cut the yarn here. Otherwise, continue with Row 3.)

Row 3:

  • Ch 1, then 1 sc in the first stitch
  • Work 1 sc into each hdc and dc stitch, and 1 sl st into each sc between petals along the strip
  • Cut the yarn

Shaping the Rose Flower:

  • Roll up the crocheted strip into a rose shape
  • Thread a tapestry needle with one yarn end and secure the edge with a few stitches
  • Use the second yarn end to stitch through the centre of the rose and reinforce the shape
  • Weave in all loose ends to complete the flower

Back Circle for the Brooch

Round 1:

  • Make an adjustable ring
  • Ch 1, then work 8 sc into the ring
  • Pull the ring tight and join with a sl st into the first stitch (Total: 8 sc)

Round 2:

  • Ch 1, then increase (2 sc in each stitch) around
  • Join with a sl st (Total: 16 sc)

Round 3:

  • Ch 1, 1 increase in the first stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch – repeat around
  • Join with a sl st (Total: 24 sc)

Round 4:

  • Ch 1, 1 sc, 1 increase, 1 sc – repeat around
  • Join with a sl st, then cut the yarn (Total: 32 sc)
