The Crochet Boxed Block Stitch is a beautifully textured design that creates a clean, structured “boxed” effect. The combination of open spaces and raised clusters gives it a modern yet cozy appearance, making it perfect for blankets, scarves, baby projects, and decorative throws.
Whether you’re creating a soft baby blanket or a full-size afghan, this stitch works up quickly and looks stunning in both solid shades and bold stripes. It offers the perfect balance between elegance and comfort.
One of the best things about this stitch is its versatility. The repeating block pattern is easy to memorize after a few rows, making it relaxing and enjoyable to work. You can keep it classic with a single color or experiment with vibrant combinations for a more playful, contemporary look. It adapts beautifully to different yarn types — from soft cotton for baby items to thicker yarns for cozy bedspreads and home décor pieces. No matter your choice, the finished result always looks polished and professional.

Border
Preparation
Before starting the border, weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle.
Round 1
With white yarn, join in the top left corner.
Ch 3, then work 1 round of DC evenly around the entire blanket.
-
In each corner, work 5 DC.
-
Along the sides, place 2 DC into the side of each DC row and 1 DC into each SC row.
Round 2
When you reach your starting point, work 5 DC into the starting corner.
Continue around the blanket, alternating FPDC and BPDC.
In each corner, maintain the alternating pattern, but work 3 stitches into the same corner post.
Example:
If you approach a corner with a FPDC, work FPDC–BPDC–FPDC into the corner post. Then continue with the opposite stitch to maintain the pattern.
Rounds 3–4 (or more if desired)
Continue alternating FPDC and BPDC, matching each post stitch to the one below so the raised ridges remain aligned.
In every corner, work 3 alternating post stitches into the corner post.
Finishing
Work as many border rounds as desired (5 rounds are recommended for a bold finish).
Join with a slip stitch to the starting stitch, fasten off, and weave in any remaining ends.
